ATHLETICS SOUTHLAND CHAMPIONSHIP 2021 INFORMATION
The 2021 Southland Athletics Championships is held at Surrey Park on:
- Saturday 13 March 2021
Any students interested in competing must see Mr Lamont in 7KM or the Maths office ASAP.

JUNIOR HIGH – YEAR 7 and 8, BASKETBALL LEAGUE – Term 1 and 2 2021
The 2021 SBA Junior High Basketball League commences on Tuesday 2 March and runs over 9 Tuesday nights at ILT Stadium Southland.

Year 7/8 Girls Smash Cricket
- Venue: Queen's Park Cricket Oval, 150 Gala Street
- When: Monday's ALL games start at 3:45 pm. Season starts Monday, 22 February and ends Monday, 29 March.
National Primary School Shield
This is a Twenty20 school based competition for girls in Year 7 and 8. The Otago/Southland competition commences in Term 1 with the winner progressing to the National Finals to be held in Term 4 of 2021.
Regional Dates are:
- 25 February: Winners of District Pools matches. SGHS has progressed to the next round.
- 12 March: Winners of qualifying games play in Quarter and Semi-Finals. SGHS vs. St Hildas in Dunedin.
- 24 March: Winners of Semi-Finals play in NZC Shield Regional Final
Year 9 - 13 Cricket (Gillette Venus Cup Competition)
The Otago/Southland competition commences in Term 1 with the winner progressing to the National Finals to be held in December in Palmerston North. All games are Twenty20.
The Otago winner is awarded the Bates Cup.
Qualifying Dates are:
- 18 February: District Pools completed, SGHS progressed to next round
- 11 March: Quarter & Semi-Finals, SGHS vs Columba College in Dunedin
- 19 March: Gillette Cup Region Final

SUMMER FUTSAL 2021
Year 7/8 Summer Futsal will not be running Monday, 15 February following the Covid-19 latest alert level change.
COST: $35.00 per player (based on a team of 6, costing a total of $210 to enter)
GAMES: Term 1 2021 – begins Monday, 15 February, until Monday, 22 March 2021
Games will be 5:30 pm kick off at ILT Football Turf, Turnbull Thomson Park, Invercargill. Click HERE to view the draw each week.
Girls will be put into teams of 6. Games are 5-a-side.
Girls need to be at the Football Turf at least 10 minutes prior to the start of their games.
UNIFORM: All players must wear their Southland Girls’ High School navy blue PE top and matching plain navy shorts. Girls must be wearing proper gym shoes or football or futsal boots. The school activity top may also be worn over top.
TRAININGS: Held on Friday lunchtimes on the SGHS Football field - correct footwear to be worn at training

Hockey Season 2021
Registrations are now open for girls to register to play Hockey for SGHS this season.
- Year 9 – 13 play on Tuesday nights
- Year 7 and 8 play Thursday nights
Where: Invercargill Hockey Turf
Time: All games are between 4 – 6 pm. Our season starts in Week 2, Term 2 and goes through until August.
SGHS enter teams in the Southland Wide Competition. The Senior A Team attend the Triangular tournament in Dunedin and will attend a SISS Tournament in Christchurch in Winter Tournament week.
You must complete an online registration to play Hockey
All trials are from 5.30 – 6.30 pm. You must let Mrs Rabbitt know if you can attend. Wear appropriate hockey clothing and footwear. Bring your own gear.
All trials will be held at the Invercargill Hockey Turf, Camden Street.
Year 9 – 13 will trial for 3 days
- Trial 1: Tuesday 16th March (All must attend)
- Trial 2: Thursday 18th March
- Trial 3: Tuesday 23rd March
Year 7 and 8 Trials
Dependent on numbers, will dictate whether we run trials. Dates will be posted on website if needed.

Netball Season 2021
Registrations are now open for girls to register to play netball for SGHS this season. Our season starts in April and goes through until August. SGHS enter teams in the Invercargill Netball Centre competition as well as send teams to various Secondary School Tournaments across the South Island.
Season Start Dates:
- Open Grades: Saturday 10 April Grading
- Secondary School Grades: Saturday 22 May Grading
All trials will be held at SGHS Gym and the outdoor courts. All students wishing to play in a SGHS team must attend trials. Please click HERE to view trial dates and times.
All Seniors MUST attend at least one open trial this week. After the Open trials, girls will be divided into 2 trial groups. SGHS Senior Group or Senior A/B/C Group.
Trial group lists will be posted up Thursday morning in the Sports Office. All teams will be finalised and posted up next Friday 12th March.
If for any reason, you cannot attend the Open Trials this week you need to let Mrs Huia know.
You must complete an online registration to play netball.
