Participation in sport provides an avenue for physical and social interaction outside the classroom. Southland Girls’ High School values all sporting codes and the diverse interests of our students. The school endeavours to give girls the opportunities to participate at the highest possible level in their chosen sports.
The holder of many national titles, SGHS has a distinguished sporting record. From the grass roots of school sports have grown Olympic and Commonwealth sporting champions. We have a strong sporting tradition with a high level of participation.

Our Director of Sport, Jess Huia, ensures team sports are well managed. We have a firm belief in ‘fair play for all’, and work hard to maintain these standards.
Our Gymnasium being bigger than an international netball court with tiered seating, has proven be an invaluable resource for both the school community and the wider community. The Dance & Drama Suite with a beautiful rimu floor and with connections to specialist storage areas, has added much to the diverse nature of our facilities.
Our dedicated Performing Arts facility a major drawcard for students with a passion for the Performing Arts, has a dedicated Theatre with tiered seating and theatre quality lighting and sound provides a professional space for senior students to rehearse and present their performances.

SGHS uses the School Stream app to advise registered caregivers of important school updates, sports and event cancellations, access to our Friday Flyer, and can also be used by a registered caregiver to notify the school of a student absence.
