Cultural Activities and Clubs

Southland Girls’ High School values extra-curricular activities and endeavours to support the diverse interests of our students.

We encourage students to have balance in their education combining their academic goals with a variety of co and extra curriculum activities including cultural and sporting activities and clubs.

There are opportunities for all students to participate in sports, music, and cultural groups among others.  Participation in extra-curricular activities is encouraged and enables our students to develop a wide range of skills during their time with us.

See below for a list of all the extra-curricular activities and clubs on offer at Southland Girls’ High School.

We also have a number of annual camps, which for many students are a highlight of their year, find out more here.

The SGHS Pasifika dance group Oli Ula is a committed group of students with a passion for dance. They perform yearly at the Pasifika Festival and at school celebrations.

The group takes its name from a rare Samoan flower that grows only in a few locations, making it a real treasure and hard to acquire. The students felt that this name fitted well with their group and also portrays the Habit of Mind ‘Persistence’.

Oli Ula looks forward to the group growing in numbers, learning dances from other Pasifika cultures and sharing what they learn with their fellow students.

If you would like to join, please see Mrs Sophia Dommisse at school or email [email protected]
