The Year 12 Agriculture class has been on two field trips over the past couple of weeks. We have been looking at the environmental impact of dairy farming on the Waituna lagoon. We visited the Waituna Lagoon, tested the water clarity at the lagoon and on dairy farm higher up in the catchment. We looked at the number of macroinvertebrates living in the lagoon and how to sample these. We also visited Asher farm and Ange and Nicole talked about all the changes on their farm to be more environmentally friendly.
Last week we worked with Luke and Gavin Macpherson planting native plants around their wetland area. This area was once a critical source area that they could no longer use. This is their third year into having a wetland and our second year planting with them.
Thanks again to everyone who offered their valuable time to educate our students. We really appreciate it.
