Student Achievements

We love Science at SGHS and so do our students!

We are super proud of Libby (Y12), Dee (Y12), Emma (Y12), Pearl (Y12), Lily (Y8) and Sophie (Y7) who have been recognised with some amazing opportunities.
  • Pearl and Libby have been selected for the Royal Society Te Apārangi Powering Potential 2020 – a total of 40 students in NZ have been selected.
  • Pearl and Dee have both been offered places in the 2021 NZCHO training group (Chem Olympiad Trust).
  • Emma has been selected to attend the WiE CAN 2021 (Women in Engineering forum to held at Canterbury University)
  • Pearl has been selected to attend the MacDiarmid Institute NanoCamp 2021 in Christchurch – a total of 10 students nationwide were selected.
  • Libby has been accepted for the Rotary National Science and Technology forum 2021 to be held in Auckland.
  • Pearl has gained her Emerald award and Sophie a Gold award in the EP World Series Science Championships.
  • Bronze Science badge awards from the Science Award Trust were awarded to Lily and Sophie.

This event contains risks, including possible injuries. This event is managed by school staff or other organisations who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s/organisation’s safety management plan. This includes careful consideration of all procedures while carrrying out the activites. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.

  • Declare medical conditions that could affect participation in the events.
  • Accept the rules set by the school for the events.

I understand that my parents / caregivers will be contacted and I may be sent home at their expense if:

  • My actions are considered unacceptable by staff / supervisors of these events.
  • I breach the behaviour / discipline standards of the school.
  • My actions put me or others in any danger.

Student tour guides will answer questions and offer a student’s perspective, before meeting with a senior member of staff to discuss your child’s enrolment.
