Throughout the year we have had a group of 113 Year 7 and 8 students participating in The University of Otago Problem Challenge. With 5 rounds of 5 difficult questions, the students have been using and developing their problem-solving skills competing against students from all over New Zealand.
It’s been a fun challenge for our students who love numbers and we are extremely proud of the results achieved by SGHS students.
The following students received Merit awards, putting them in the top 25% of those who completed Problem Challenge.
Year 7 – Abby H, Lexi D, Marina R, Emily E, Mila M, Fleur B, Grace E, Sasha S, and Charlotte O
Year 8 – Moana M, Suri T, Emma T, Morgan L, Carys W, Brianna C and Natalie M.
Olivia S (Received an Excellence award and received a book voucher for being in the top 1% in New Zealand, answering 24 out of 25 of the questions correctly.
We wish Olivia the best of luck when she takes on the Final Challenge on the 19th of October reserved for the highest performers in the challenge.
