We are incredibly proud of Year 9 student, Sophie Ineson who attended the recent International Holocaust Remembrance Day Parliament reception held in Wellington. The trip was a humbling one for Sophie she tells us, as she delivered her entry in person to an audience including dignitaries and other invited guests.
Sophie was one of three winning students who entered the Paul Seideman Composition competition, impressing the judges with her video composition on the impacts of resisters like Sophie Scholl on her and students today.
The Holocaust Centre of New Zealand administers this annual competition with much appreciation to the late Paul Seideman z”l for his endowment of such a meaningful and successful initiative in Holocaust studies.
To commemorate the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau by the Soviet Army on 27 January 1945, Paul funded an annual Holocaust essay competition for New Zealand secondary students. This was established in 2014 under the administration of HCNZ.
