As a part of the Food and Hospitality 202 option, students can choose to participate in a Barista course which will be run onsite by The Learning Place. The course is limited to 14 students, the payment of the fee will secure their place on the course.
The course will help students develop industry related skills and earn 7 credits towards their NCEA. Each student will be required to pay $50 towards the costs of the course, GATEWAY funding will cover the difference.
- DATES: Wednesday, 26th and Thursday, 27th June 2024
- TIME: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
- VENUE: Room 2KS, Southland Girls’ High School
- COST: $50.00 fee – due by Monday 24th June 2024
Part of the funding criteria is for the students to complete 10 hours of work experience. This will support their learning, provide a minimum level of competency, and enhance future employment opportunities. The work experience will take place at school on Thursday lunchtimes and Tuesday afterschool during semester two. Students will be able to sign up for their available times and ensure they complete the expected 10 hours.
If students fail to complete their work experience, there will be an additional fee of $50.00 to partially cover the cost of the course.
A booklet will be provided to each student in advance of the start of the course which will need to be completed. As this is a two-day course, students must attend both days to pass the course.
This event contains risks such as, slippery surfaces, confined work areas that could result in minor injuries like strains and bruises. This course is being carried out in the Foods classroom so students will be familiar with the environment. This event is managed by The Learning Group (TLP) who hold a Memorandum of Understanding with Southland Girls High School. The Learning Place along with the FHS2 teacher will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact either myself or the Head of Faculty Julie Leonard or [email protected]
It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in them being removed from the course.
