Year 7 Camp Dunedin 2024

As part of our Education Outside the Classroom programme, our Year 7 students will be embarking on their annual camp to Dunedin in Term 4. The goals of this camp are to provide an urban experience for our Year 7 students as a change from the outdoors camps that many have experienced in Year 6, and to provide opportunities for social interaction with peers and adults in a range of places and learning settings that are unavailable in Invercargill. The camp has strong ties to our term studies- ‘My Place- My Story’, ‘My Hauora- Our Strength’, ‘Our Place- Our Legacy’ and ‘My Courage- Our Challenge’.

A detailed camp programme will be available closer to your child’s camp. In past years camp activities have included:

  • Otago Museum: Exhibition Activities
  • Toitu – Otago Early Settlers Museum: Education Programme
  • Lan Yuan Gardens
  • Sports Hall of Fame: Exhibition Quiz
  • Otago Aquarium: Supper in the Sea Programme
  • Dunedin Public Art Gallery: Education Programme
  • Moana Pool: Hydroslide/Recreation
  • Unipol Gymnasium/Boxfit class
  • Beach excursion (weather permitting)
  • Meridian Mall: Recreation

Supervision: Each class will be accompanied by SGHS staff members and parent helpers.

Parental Help: School camps have proven to be very popular with parents and we encourage you to attend. However, there is a limit on how many we can take and this varies from class to class. The cost for parent helpers is $150.00.

If you are interested in going with your child’s homeroom class to Dunedin please email their homeroom teacher for information about the role and how to apply. (Email format for teachers is: [email protected])

Class allocations to each camp will be announced by Wednesday 25 September 2024.

Please also note that 7MT will be split amongst the other 4 classes. Mrs Tiplady will advise of the groupings and classes the students will be going with.
