Y9-13 Southland Regional Debating Championships 1 March 2025

This year Debating is beginning early with the Southland Secondary Schools Debating Championship first regional round taking place on 1st March. It is during this day that a team is selected to represent Southland at the National Debating Championships held in Wellington in May.

As always it is an intense day of thinking and rhetoric, so the students need to be well equipped with a water bottle, snacks and lunch. The details are as follows:

  • Opening of Southland Regionals: 8:30 am on Saturday 1st March
  • 5 rounds of debating to be held (3 open rounds, semifinal + finals)
  • End of competition: 6:30 pm
  • James Hargest Senior Campus – to be confirmed
  • Students will need to be in correct school uniform with no jewellery.
  • Cost : $25.00 Please pay by Tuesday 25 February 2025

As always you are welcome to come and watch the debates throughout the day with the final debated being held in the library. The expectation for this day is that students will be respectful and uphold the school values at all times.
