Y12-13 Tourism Retail and Transitions Trip, 23 Sept 2024

The field trip will be an Education outside the classroom activity and will support learning in the Business of Tourism, promote a Tourism Destination and career advice for students looking at working in the Tourism and Hospitality industry.

Date: Monday 23 September from 9am-2.30pm.

Arrive at Foveaux Paua Bluff for tour and presentation

11.30am Langland Hotel tour and presentation

12.45am Southern Institute of Technology for lecture in the Hotel Management Degree

2.30pm back to Southland Girls High School

Clothing: Mufti uniform please. Closed shoes and warm clothing to be worn please.

Transport: Students will travel with Go Bus

Food: Please bring a packed school lunch as there will be limited time to purchase lunch.

Cellphones: As it is during school time of use of phones is not permitted.

The factory tours visit students will be closely supervised to ensure their health and safety. Students could get lost if they do not stay with the group and keep to timeframes so they must follow all instructions. The event is supervised by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes careful management of groups of ten whole on the Tour of the Paua Farm with a counting in and out procedure before having any location. The bus will be parked outside each location to minimise movements on roads and streets. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value. If you wish to come into school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact Mrs Spencer-Humm (Teacher in Charges of Tourism).

It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in parents being asked to pick up their child from the location.

Weekly sports contains risks, including common injuries like strains, sprains, bruises and dislocations. These events are managed by the appropriate sporting body in conjunction with school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes careful consideration of the risks, all risks will be outlined to the students. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.   • Declare medical conditions that could affect participation in the events.
  • Accept the rules set by the school for the events.
  • Take part in all activities within ‘challenge-by-choice’ options

I understand that my parents / caregivers will be contacted and I may be sent home at their expense if:

  • My actions are considered unacceptable by staff / supervisors of these events.
  • I breach the behaviour / discipline standards of the school.
  • My actions put me or others in any danger.
