The SGHS Yr 8/9 team called the “Super Signers” submitted a project on the power of peer coaching to teach other students at SGHS how to sign the New Zealand National Anthem.
This was an international competition, the team reached the semi-finals out of 245 teams. A commendation was the final result in the category “Impact”.
The judges were impressed with the the work completed by the girl with the following feedback:
“Your project is really well thought out. We appreciate how you have embraced the challenges of COVID and found ways to reach your mission. You have used many different channels to spread your message and achieve your goals and you have some real demonstrable impact and results.
Additionally, you have demonstrated great empathy and leadership qualities. Having the confidence to do lessons and teach others how to use sign language is commendable. The impact of your actions will help people with hearing difficulties feel more included and raise awareness across the society.
Ka pai girls on such a wonderful achievement on the world stage.
