Elsie Locke Writing Competition

Lauren McKenzie in 7BB – you are a star! A huge congratulations on your Top 10 placing in New Zealand recently for the Elsie Locke writing competition.
The competition is open to Year 7 and 8 students all over New Zealand and since its inception in 2009, thousands of students have participated.
Elsie Locke was a New Zealand writer, historian and activist campaigning for woman’s rights, social justice and the environment – and on top of that wrote many childrens books.
Lauren tells us her entry took just on a month to write, edit and perfect until she felt it was ready to submit – with much of the writing taking place on the school bus ride to and from school.

Congratulations Lauren on your amazing achievement – we are all very proud of you and your efforts, especially Miss Brough and your classmates here at SGHS.
