South Island Secondary School Water Polo Tournament Senior A – 26-30 March 2025

Your child has been selected in the Senior A Water Polo team to represent Southland Girls’ High School at the South Island Secondary School Tournament in March 2025. Please read through the following information and complete the permission payment and health form below.

The permission form and health form are due by 12 March 2025.

  • Dates: 26 March – 30 March 2025
  • Time: Depart SGHS at 8:00 am / Return to SGHS approx. 9:00 pm
  • Transport: The team will be travelling to Christchurch via a GoBus hire van, the day prior to the competition commencing and will be returning after their last game on the last day of tournament.
  • Clothing and Equipment: SGHS water polo togs, SGHS warm up top, navy trackpants, SGHS jacket for travelling and games. As well as casual clothes and personal items
  • Venue: Christchurch, Jellie Park and QEII pools
  • Accommodation: Boutique on Bealey, 69 Bealey Avenue, Christchurch.
  • Adult Supervisors: The team will be managed by Brenda Goodwill (TIC of Water Polo) and their team coach Ashley Rabel.
  • Cost: $780.00  TBC per student. Full payment is due by 12 March 2025 Please note: School Policy requires payment in full for your child to be eligible to participate in this trip. Payments will be allocated to any unpaid fees and charges on your child’s account first.
  • Other information/requirements:
    • SGHS togs are to be purchased from the school at an additional cost $86.00 – please click HERE for our ‘How to make Payments’ page.
    • Please bring towels as there will be limited opportunity to wash them.
    • Food: they will need to bring a packed lunch for the travelling day up to Christchurch on the 29 March.
    • Other requirements: spending money, toiletries, first aid including any medication or sanitary items, comfy clothing for after the tournament days, and pyjama

Water Polo contains risks, including common injuries like strains, sprains, bruises and dislocations. This competition is managed by the Canterbury Water Polo Association and SGHS will help to manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes careful consideration of the risks and all risks will be outlined to students. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in your child facing disciplinary actions on their return or sent home at the cost of the Whanau/parents or caregivers.

  • Look after myself and my personal belongings.
  • Declare medical conditions that could affect participation in the events.
  • Accept the rules set by the school for the events.
  • Take part in all activities within ‘challenge-by-choice’ options

I understand that my parents / caregivers will be contacted and I may be sent home at their expense if:

  • My actions are considered unacceptable by staff / supervisors of these events.
  • I breach the behaviour / discipline standards of the school.
  • My actions put me or others in any danger.
