Last term one of our Year 10 Science classes were looking into the Alpine Fault and the seriousness of if/when it ruptures and the potential consequences it could create. The class also looked at the possibility of a warning system and what actions they could take in order to be prepared.
Six of the students Carly, Lucie, Casey, Sophie, Xanthia and Jorja decided to take the process a step further and sent their letters to the Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.
Last week the students were very surprised but also excited to receive a reply from the Prime Minister which both thanked them for taking the time to get in contact, as well as outlining some of the initiatives that are under way or being considered in the event of the Alpine Fault rupturing. Well done girls on the initiative and efforts to raise your concerns – an impressive outcome
