Southland Interschool Japanese Speech Competition

The Southland Interschool Japanese Speech Competition involves students in Years 9-13 from three different high schools in Invercargill – a total of 30 students competed this year.

Year 9 students performed role-plays in pairs, while Year 10-13 students gave speeches on varying topics. Competitors also answered two questions at the end of their speeches in Japanese. We welcomed one of our alumni, Krista Nishimura back to the school as a guest judge.

The girls all displayed a superb standard of work with some stunning results:

Year 10 Section:
Aastha Prasad – 1st place
Syafa Abila – 2nd place

Year 11 Section:
Sophie McCrostie – 3rd place

Year 12 Section:
Caitlin Routledge Dos Santos – 2nd place
Jyra Luna – 3rd place

Mayor’s Prizes for Passion and Expression
Karminee Kidd (Yr 9)
Jasnah Luna (Yr 10)
Jyra Luna (Yr 12)

A huge thank you also to our talented and very fluent in Japanese teacher – Mrs Wilson who teaches the girls and is a mentor to them in the lead up to the competition.
