House Swimming, 2 July 2024

HOUSE SWIMMING EVENT – Tuesday 2 July 2024

If your child wishes to participate in this House event, she will make her way from school to Splash Palace, exiting the back gate and follow the path to the pool.  There she will change and sit with her House at the shallow end of the pool.  House leaders will take rolls which will be sent back to school to confirm attendance.

Time: 9.00am-12 noon

Venue: Splash Palace

Food: Bring food and water with you. Limited canteen facilities will operate at the pool. No one is allowed to leave the pool during the event.

Your child is automatically in the events she enters herself in on the day.  There will be non-competitive, and competitive events with a variety of swimming strokes and fun House relays.

Your child may wear House colours. School uniform is required on return to school for afternoon classes.  Your child must bring togs, towel, goggles and any other swimming equipment or medical requirements, eg asthma inhaler.  Please ensure that your childs’s health information is up to date with Student Services.

This event contains risks, relating to water and could involve injuries from slipping or falling while walking round the pool. This event is managed by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan along with the staff from Splash Palace.  While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated.  Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.  If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact Nicola Hawkes in charge of activity, nicola.hawkes@southlandgirls.school.nz or 03 2116030.

It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in the student being returned to school.

Weekly sports contains risks, including common injuries like strains, sprains, bruises and dislocations. These events are managed by the appropriate sporting body in conjunction with school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes careful consideration of the risks, all risks will be outlined to the students. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value. I understand that sports, trips, and extra-curricular activities are opportunities for me to learn, practice skills, and gain attitudes and values in an environment outside of the school.  I realise that this requires me to take on genuine responsibility for my own enjoyment and safety and that of others.

  • Show courtesy and consideration to others.
  • Follow the rules and instructions of staff and other supervisors at the events.
  • Look after myself and my personal belongings.
  • Declare medical conditions that could affect participation in the events.
  • Accept the rules set by the school for the events.
  • Take part in all activities within ‘challenge-by-choice’ options

I understand that my parents / caregivers will be contacted and I may be sent home at their expense if:

  • My actions are considered unacceptable by staff / supervisors of these events.
  • I breach the behaviour / discipline standards of the school.
  • My actions put me or others in any danger.
