Our Level 2 PE class will be attending a ‘Great Trails‘ cycling trip to the Central Otago area 2026. It will be 3 days of off and on road cycling tour to fully assess Standard 2.4 and 2.7. Students are responsible for and will be assessed on their riding, organisational, camping, cooking and teamwork skills throughout the 3 days.  

Please read through the following information below and complete the permission and health form – by 27 February 2026. 

Details:  

• Depart: Tuesday 31 March at 8:30 am – SGHS Gymnasium 
• Return: Thursday 2 April at 3:00 pm – SGHS Gymnasium 
• Practice Ride: Wednesday 11 March to Bluff Mountain Bike Park
• Transport: school vans, hire van, and private vehicles. 
• Drivers: SGHS vans – Dave Beadle, Eddie Peters, Jodie Rutledge Hire Van – 4 x private vehicles driven by parents, to be confirmed  
• Adults attending: 3 x SGHS staff – Dave Beadle, Eddie Peters, Jodie Rutledge  
• Clothing and equipment required: as part of their Std 2.7 students will be creating a pre-trip gear list and on the day gear check. Students are to have thermals and wind/waterproof jacket. Students are to provide their own day pack, bike and helmet. Any medication required.

• Cost: paid in your NCEA Level 2 course costs
  • Board financial procedure requires payment in full, by the due date for your child to purchase resources, participate in sports or attend trips/events. Payments received will be allocated to the oldest unpaid fees and charges owing on your child’s account first. Extra-curricular activities operate on a “pay before you play” policy 

This event contains risks, including driving, camping in tents, cooking, off road and on road cycling, possible injuries could be falls, cuts, bruises and joint injuries. This event is supervised by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan, each staff member also holds a valid First Aid Certificate.  While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated.  Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.  If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact our Teacher in Charge, Mr Dave Beadle at [email protected] or 027 600 6424.

It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in removal from activities and parents/caregivers contacted to collect their child from Alexandra at their own cost.
