Careerfest – 24 July 2025

As part of the Year 11 and Year 12 curriculum, students are given the opportunity to attend CareerFest Southland to hear from experts in their fields of interest, explore possible future pathways or to gather information about tertiary institutions and courses.  The visit allows students to consider career options and how their career choices will affect the subjects they select to study at school.  You may wish to view the website https://careerfest.nz/  To ensure students make the most of their time at the event, they are encouraged to do some research on areas that may be of interest to them.

Details:

Date:     Thursday 24th July 2025   Time:     10 – 11am

Venue:   Stadium Southland, Isabella Street, Invercargill

Students will be taken to and from the venue by bus, there is no cost to attend the event.

Please note:

  • School uniform is to be worn;
  • Buses will depart SGHS at 9.50am and return at 11.05am;
  • Students are expected to remain within the exhibitor’s area for the time they are at CareerFest and are not permitted to move about the Stadium (including the café). There are bathroom facilities within this area;
  • If you do not wish your child to attend, they will be required to remain at school and will be supervised by a staff member in a nominated classroom.

Every attempt has been made by the CareerFest organisers (Great South) to ensure students safety and while the event does contain some risk, it is limited to the student’s interaction with exhibitors (trying on some NZ Police gear, VR equipment, have-a-go stands etc).  While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels, they cannot be totally eliminated, and some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.

Southland Girls’ High School staff will be in attendance and will help manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan.  If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact Rachel Smith. on [email protected]  or 03 2116030.

It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by organisers and staff, and follow all appropriate school rules. Any student whose behaviour is deemed dangerous or who puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will be removed from the main event and be under the direct supervision of a staff member until we depart.
