Year 7 and 8 Maths Acceleration Programme 2026

Year 7-8 Maths Acceleration Programme (MAP)

Programme information and consent form

This year at SGHS, we are starting a Year 7-8 Maths Acceleration Programme (MAP) for students who need additional help with maths. This form explains the programme and asks for your consent for your child to participate, as we feel your child would benefit greatly from this opportunity.

Purpose of the Year 7-8 MAP

The programme involves small-group teaching sessions over 12 weeks to help students reach their expected curriculum levels. Taking part is voluntary; your consent is required for your child to take part in this programme.

Why has my child been chosen?

We have identified that your child is currently working below the expected curriculum level in Mathematics and Statistics, and we believe this support will help them.

What does my child have to do?

  • Attend four 30-minute sessions per week for 12 weeks, in addition to their usual daily maths learning.
  • Complete a test in the e-asTTle assessment tool before and after the programme to measure their progress.
  • Mrs Amanda Tiplady will be the teacher of the Maths Acceleration Programme and will be in contact with you on a regular basis throughout the 12-week programme

What will happen to the results of the programme?

The e-asTTle tests will help us understand your child’s progress and the impact of the programme. The Ministry of Education will also use the test results, but this information will have all names and other identifying details removed.

We have chosen Education Perfect as an online tool for part of the programme; the tool will also provide information to the Ministry, but will also have all names and other identifying details removed.  Your child may also be asked to do an optional student experience survey.

How will the data be used?

SGHS will use information about your child to:

  • identify who would benefit from the Year 7-8 MAP support
  • deliver the teaching sessions
  • monitor your child’s progress through their e-asTTle tests
  • support teaching and learning decisions at the school.

This information remains within the school and is used in the same way as other learning and achievement information. We manage personal information in line with our obligations under the Privacy Act 2020.

What information is used by the Ministry of Education, and how is it used?

The Ministry will only get the information necessary to monitor the impact and effectiveness of the programme at a high level:

  • Anonymised e-asTTle testing data (your child’s name is not included)
  • Your child’s National Student Number (NSN) – used only to match to other relevant Ministry information
  • Combined, school-level insights from the online learning tool (no individual student will be identified) – where the school is using an online learning tool in the programme
  • Anonymous, optional student survey responses

The Ministry uses this information to measure the effectiveness of the programme. The  Ministry does not receive your child’s name or directly identifiable information; all reporting is anonymised.

Will my child’s participation in the programme be kept confidential?

Yes. Any information used by the Ministry of Education for measuring the effectiveness of the  programme will have names and directly identifiable details removed. The Ministry may share  anonymised or aggregated testing information (where no individual student can be identified) with programme partners or researchers to help measure effectiveness and improve the  programme.

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT

I understand that sports, trips, and extra-curricular activities are opportunities for me to learn, practice skills, and gain attitudes and values in an environment outside of the school.  I realise that this requires me to take on genuine responsibility for my own enjoyment and safety and that of others.

I agree to do the following to make this happen:

  • Show courtesy and consideration to others.
  • Follow the rules and instructions of staff and other supervisors at the events.
  • Look after myself and my personal belongings.
  • Declare medical conditions that could affect participation in the events.
  • Accept the rules set by the school for the events.
  • Take part in all activities within ‘challenge-by-choice’ options

I understand that my parents / caregivers will be contacted and I may be sent home at their expense if:

  • My actions are considered unacceptable by staff / supervisors of these events.
  • I breach the behaviour / discipline standards of the school.
  • My actions put me or others in any danger.
