Girls with Hi-Vis
As part of the Girls with Hi Vis initiative., Contact Energy are hosting students to get behind the scenes look at Hydro Power Generation at the Clyde Dam. Students will get the chance to tour the dam, learn about the trade and technical roles on offer and see Hydro Power generation close up.
Please read through the following information and complete the permission form and payment below – due Friday 13 June 2025.
- Date: Wednesday 18 June 2025 . Event runs from 9.30am-2.00pm in Clyde
- Times: Students are to meet at Stadium Southland at 5.30am. The bus will return to Stadium Southland at approximately 6.00pm
- Transport: We are travelling to and from the event with James Hargest College students and careers staff. Go Bus depart JHC Senior Campus at 6.30am, all students to be onsite by 6.25am and arrive back to JHC Senior Campus approx 4.30pm
- Uniform: School uniform is not required. Students must wear closed in shoes, long pants and long sleeve tops. No jewellery, no ballet flats, slides, jandels, birkinstocks etc.
- Additional: Please ensure students have snacks and water for the bus. Lunch will be provided please confirm if there are any dietary requirements. Phones are permitted for use while on the bus if needed, but not while on site. SGHS staff will have a phone with them in case of emergencies
- All students are expected to maintain a high standard of behaviour at all times.
- Costs: STAR funding will cover of the hire of the bus
- Venue: Clyde Dam Power Station, Fruitgrowers Rd, Clyde 9391
This event contains risks, including tours of the Clyde Dam and power station. This event is managed by Connexions in conjunction with Contact Energy. SGHS school staff will also be in attendance and will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. A copy of the Health and Safety plan will be provided by the host, as well as relevant safety equipment to be worn onsite. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value. It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in students meeting with the Senior Leadership Team and whānau will be advised.
