Kicking Off the Year with Adventure!
Two of our Duke of Edinburgh students have started the year on an adventurous high, completing their Adventurous Journey sections of the Award. Here’s a glimpse into their incredible experiences:
Emma’s Outward Bound Journey
Emma embraced the wild at Outward Bound, where her highlight was an unforgettable night under the stars:
“The highlight of my Outward Bound course was sleeping under tarps in the bush one night when a possum snuggled up next to me! I had never seen a possum before, and this moment made me feel so connected to nature. Meeting my watch group was equally amazing. Together, we overcame challenges like improving communication during activities. I couldn’t ask for a better group to share this journey with.”
Sophie’s Spirit of New Zealand Voyage
During her 10-day adventure aboard the Spirit of New Zealand, Sophie tackled the open sea. Her favourite moment? Facing the waves on a raft after an incredible day on Great Barrier Island:
“The thrilling journey back to the ship on the rafts was unforgettable! After a day of beach games and tramping, we paddled through towering waves, securing our gear and working as a team to stay on course. Each wave was a challenge, but we overcame them together, finally reaching the ship with a huge sense of accomplishment. It was exhilarating—a perfect mix of teamwork and adventure!”
We have also had students complete hours for their skills, service, and physical recreation sections of the Award, showing incredible dedication and effort across all areas.
