Katniss

Katniss – Hong Kong, 18 years

I’m loving my school life here at Southland Girls’ High. I have been able to try new activities and school subjects I’m interested in without being judged or pressured to be the best. I can grow at my own pace because I am surrounded by understanding and encouraging people. I’m currently studying Dance, Avant Garde, Drama and Show Me the Money (Economics and Accounting), English, Science and Math’s at school. At Southland Girls’ High School One I can actually take artistic subjects I enjoyed as my main subjects which I wasn’t able to at my former school before coming to New Zealand.

When I graduate from high school, I would like to study film theory, art direction, cinematography and film production at university.

Suri – Thailand, 15 years

I came to Southland Girls’ High School at the start of 2023. I like the teachers and the students at Southland Girls. The teachers are nice and kind, and I can make myself understand about the subjects clearly by asking questions and discussing with my teachers and friends.

The school is located near the city centre where I like to go in the weekends with my friends to shop and spend time with them. At Southland Girls’ High I have been able to join the Chess Club and also play badminton which I wouldn’t have been able to do at my old school in Thailand. I study Math, English, Art, Physical Education Idea, Science, and CSI.

GG – Thailand, 13 years

I started at Southland Girls High School in Year 8, mid-2024. Let me tell you, everyone here is super nice and kind – teachers and classmates alike!

One thing I totally like about this school is I get to pick fun subjects like Sewing and Dance. In Year 9, I’m pumped to try out new stuff like Fashion Design and Cooking. And the best part? I can join many clubs like gymnastics, basketball, tag touch, and more after school.

I’m living in Enwood Boarding House, and it’s awesome because it’s not far from the city centre. Weekends are great because I can shop and have fun with friends. It’s like having a sleepover with buddies every single day! Even though I’m away from my family, I’m not feeling lonely because everyone here is so cool. The weather’s nice, the food’s great. Every moment here is just awesome, and I’m happy to be here. I’d totally recommend this place to anyone!
