Y7-9 Science Roadshow – 11 November 2025

The National Science – Technology Road Show 2025 is being offered to a maximum of 60 students in Year 7, 8, 9,  students.  The 2025 programme is offering an engaging, lively, and interactive learning encounter of science for children, a visit to the Science Roadshow encompasses live shows and hands-on exhibits that expand students’ comprehension of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This endeavour strongly supports the Nature of Science strand and the Five Foundational Science Capabilities. Each year the shows, themes and exhibits change, so there’s always something new for students to learn and engage with.

Each session includes two exciting live science shows:

  • Planet Earth — Whakaaturanga Papatūānuku:
    matter cycles, energy flows and life webs.
  • Balloons and Bernoulli — Ngā puangi me Bernoulli:
    amazing pressure phenomena.

And over 60 hands-on exhibits to experience, grouped under the following themes:

  • Applied science — Te pūtaiao whaipainga
  • Detecting — Te tautohu
  • Forces — Ngā tōpana
  • Patterns — He tauira
  • Structures – He hanganga
  • Trees and environment — Ngā rākau me te tai

Date/Time: Tuesday 11th November, 8.50 am  Return: Tuesday 11th November, 10.30 am

Transport: Go bus

Clothing: Full school uniform

Costs: $12 to cover entry and a contribution towards the bus. Please note: Board financial procedure requires payment in full, by the due date for your child to purchase resources, participate in sports or attend trips/events. Payments received will be allocated to the oldest unpaid fees and charges owing on your child’s account first. Extra-curricular activities operate on a “pay before you play” policy.

Venue: Ascot Community School

This event contains risks, including getting injured while completing one of the 60 hands-on activities.  This event is supervised by school staff and Science roadshow who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan.  This includes all helpers going through a safety briefing which is passed on to each student at the activity.  While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated.  Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.  If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact Mel Young, Assistant to the Head of Science on 2116030 or [email protected].

It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in not being able to attend future science roadshow field trips.

These events are managed by the appropriate sporting body in conjunction with school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes careful consideration of the risks, all risks will be outlined to the students. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.
