On 4 June 2025 Southland Girls’ High School are taking the Te Manawa Kaharoa AT class to Otago Polytechnic. While there, students will tour the Arts, Design, Occupational Therapy & Sports departments, experience some practical “have a go” sessions, and learn about the various courses offered. Students will also have the opportunity to connect in with Te Punaka Owheo, the Maori Support Centre at Otago Polytechnic. This fun and interactive day is designed to help students start to map out their next steps beyond school.
Details:
Date: 4 June 2025. Time to arrive at school: 6.45am (bus departs 7am) Bus returns 5.30pm (approx.)
Food: Students to bring water, snacks and afternoon tea for the bus. Morning tea and lunch will be provided by Te Punaka Owheo. Please advise of any dietry restrictions.
Uniform: Students are permitted to wear mufti clothing as they will be participating in a range of activities including a warm jacket and training shoes.
- Please note that as this is a school related event, students are not permitted to use their phone while at Otago Polytechnic. If they wish to bring them they must remain in their bag and can only be used with permission by SGHS staff or at the end of the event.
- Students are not advised to bring any items of monetary or sentimental value as there is nowhere safe to store these. SGHS will not be responsible for any item that is lost while away.
- Please ensure that the students health information is up to date on EDGE.
- All students must have a completed permission form for this trip to attend. If they are feeling unwell prior to or on the day of the trip and cannot attend, please follow normal school process for absence/illness.
This event contains risks, including moving about in public spaces. This event is supervised by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes careful planning of managing risks that may occur in all events and having sufficient staff to supervise accordingly. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value. It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will not be tolerated, and will be reported to the Senior Leadership Team as well as parents/caregivers at the conclusion of the event.
