Our Year 9TTO  students have been learning about the Pōwhiri process, the different roles and responsibilities and the tikanga on the Marae. We will be visiting the Marae to enable the students to participate in a pōwhiri, prepare the food for the pōwhiri, share their pepeha and sing waiata. We invite you as well to come along and be part of our day. We look forward to seeing you on the day.

Date: Thursday 28 August 

Time and Venue: 8:45am – meet at Tomairangi Marae, 54 Eye St, Appleby Invercargill  9:am Pōwhiri  Finish time: 12:15pm Return time: 12:30pm to SGHS 

Transport: Students to get their own way to Marae and return to school with Go Bus transport 

Cost: $20.00

Clothing: Full Winter Uniform to be worn 

 This event contains risks, including risks including public access and spaces. This event is supervised by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan.  This includes careful supervision of students at all times.  While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated.  Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.  If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact Marama Davis on 021 0276 868 or [email protected].

It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in being sent back to school.
