As part of the Year 13 Tourism assessment programme, a field trip to Queenstown has been organised. The purpose of this trip is to provide learning opportunities beyond the classroom and to give students first-hand experience of Queenstown as a tourist destination. Students will visit a range of tourism businesses and attractions, as well as Queenstown Resort College, to further develop their understanding and knowledge of the tourism industry.
Details:
Times: Leaving SGHS at 09:00 on Tuesday 21 April 2026. Returning SGHS at 17:00 on the Wednesday 22 April 2026
Locations of interest: Queenstown Resort College, Queenstown Airport, Millbrook Resort and Kawarau Bungy Centre
Transport: via the School Van
Clothing and equipment required: Students are able to wear appropriate non-uniform clothing. Students need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow
Costs: $120.00 per person for field trip OR $165.00 per person for field trip and zipline. Please pay and complete permission slip by Thursday 2 April.
Board financial procedure requires payment in full, by the due date for your child to purchase resources, participate in sports or attend trips/events. Payments received will be allocated to the oldest unpaid fees and charges owing on your child’s account first. Extra-curricular activities operate on a “pay before you play” policy

Food: Students will need to bring a packed lunch for Tuesday 21 April. Students are to bring money (approximately $10.00) to purchase dinner on Tuesday. The school will provide breakfast and packed lunch on Wednesday 22 April.
This event contains risks, including transportation and public areas. This includes negotiating the streets of Queenstown and in public areas. This event is supervised by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes identification of possible hazards according to the school’s Risk Assessment Management Plan.. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value. It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in identified consequences related to school procedures (based on the severity of the behaviour) being enforced. This may require parents/ caregivers travelling to Queenstown to pick their child up.
