The learning focus in the Level Two Food and Nutrition class is to determine the value of sustainable food practices. As part of our learning and to enhance the classes understanding of sustainability, we will be visiting the Otautau Blueberry Farm and Wilsons Vegetables.

This trip will involve the whole class visiting both farms, having a tour, having hands on experiences picking fruits and vegetables and how each farm is using sustainable practices.

We will use these fruits and vegetables in our practical lessons as the class continues to learn and use different preserving methods. All students need to attend, as this is part of their assessment task.

This event contains risks, including possible injuries trips, sprains while walking to and from venue. These  events are managed by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan.  While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated.  Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.  If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact our Teacher in Charge, Mrs Julie Leonard at [email protected].

It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in removal from activities and parents/caregivers contacted to collect their child at their own cost
