Selected students will have the exciting opportunity to take part in the AgriKidsNZ Regional Event in Gore, a free competition where teams of three complete hands‑on farming and problem‑solving challenges. No prior experience is needed—this event is designed to be both fun and educational, helping students build teamwork, confidence, and practical skills. With modules ranging from agricultural tasks to surprise final‑round challenges, students gain valuable exposure to rural life and the wider Young Farmers community. Participation also opens the door to further opportunities, as the top teams progress to the Grand Final alongside the FMG Young Farmer of the Year.

This event contains risks, including transportation and public areas. Students could hurt themselves while completing one of the hands-on activities. This event is not organised by Southland Girls’ High School. The risk management of the activity is not Southland Girls High School’s responsibility and has been managed by the event organisers NZ Young Farmers. There is a safety briefing of any risks before the event starts. Also, at each station the people overseeing it will give specific instructions on how to safely carry out the activity, safety equipment will also be used. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.
It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in not being able to come on future Agrikid events.
