This trip contains risks, including boat trips, snorkeling which could result in drowning, flying (turbulence), being around the public which may cause students to have inappropriate interactions with the public, off road travel in vehicles without seatbelts which could result in a serious accident which could cause serious injury or death. We will ensure that students are in a group with a nominated student leader as well as an adult leader. For water based activities, students will be monitored and assistance will be available if any student is in distress. This event is supervised by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes careful supervision when in public and ensuring that measures are in place when in the water so that students are as safe as can be as well as ensuring that the drivers maintain a slow and safe speed as well as students remaining in their seats while on the Safari Tour. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value. If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact Marama Davis on 021 0276 8690 or [email protected]
It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in the student being sent home at the expense of the whanau.
In the case of an emergency or a serious event at home while your child is away, please contact Marama first, so that staff are aware of the situation and can be there when informing your tamariki.
If a student falls seriously ill/injured and cannot travel with the group and ends up staying after the travel dates, whanau would have to make their own arrangements for the supervision of their tamariki.
If a student gets ill eg covid, we will isolate the child from the rest of the group so that the rest are not exposed to infection as much as is practicable ensuring that the sick child has adult supervision.
