In Term 2, our Year 7s will be engaging in a Community Breakout programme. This essentially means they will be exploring different aspects of our community and ways in which they can contribute and give back to these community places and initiatives. This links with our Turangawaewae Term 1 learning as well.
The places involved are:
- Bushy Point
- Oreti Beach
- Invercargill City Library
- Queens Park
- Stadium Southland ILT Velodrome
- Southland Badminton Hall
- Southland Table Tennis
The programme is in two parts
- Community locations/facilities – Bushy Point, Oreti Beach, Invercargill Library and Queen’s Park. These visits will take part in the last 2 weeks of Term 2 for all Year 7 classes.
- “Lets Get Active” – Badminton, Cycling, Pickleball and Table Tennis. This will take place in Term 2 Weeks 4,6 and 8 for 7SS, 7AD and 7CC. Term 3 Weeks 3,5 and 7 for 7MT , 7EM and 7LM

Cost: $40 Community Locations $15 ( transport cost) Lets Get Active $25 (includes instructors transports and equipment and venue hire). Please pay and complete the permission form online by Monday 12 May 2025.
Please note: Board financial procedure requires payment in full, by the due date for your child to purchase resources, participate in sports or attend trips/events. Payments received will be allocated to the oldest unpaid fees and charges owing on your child’s account first. Extra-curricular activities operate on a “pay before you play” policy.
This event contains risks, including public area risks and sport related injuries like strains and sprains. This event is supervised by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes careful management and supervision of the group whilst in public areas. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value. It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in students being returned to school.
