NZAS/SGHS Partnership 2024

Year 13 NZAS/SGHS Partnership

Every year a group of Year 13 Physics students are carefully selected to participate in the SGHS/NZAS Educational Partnership. This offers the students a unique opportunity to gain experience in the workplace, particularly in Engineering and Processes. Students get to work on Engineering projects with a team of engineers and other professionals at NZAS.

Details:

Familiarisation visit and medical: 27 August 9.00 – 12.30

Project Week: 20 – 27 September 8.00 – 4.00 daily

Students can use Tiwai transport/daily bus or drive themselves to NZAS. (In the past students car pooled)

27 August (Familiarisation visit): Students MUST wear the following clothing:  long sleeves, long trousers with completely covered-in shoes with socks that cover the ankles.  It is very important that students are wearing the clothing mentioned, otherwise they will not be able to come onto site.  This includes making sure that their trousers are long (3/4 pants are not acceptable) and your socks must cover your ankles, i.e. anklet socks are not acceptable.  Basically their entire body must be covered apart from their neck, head and hands.  Long jeans are a good option of trouser to wear.  Because students will be trying on work boots, it would be a good idea to wear thick socks. Andrea Carson from NZAS will transport the students to and from school to NZAS for the familiarisation and medical visit.

20 – 27 September (Project week): NZAS provide NZAS uniform for all students.

Cost: No Cost to students

Venue: Tiwai Road, Tiwai Point, 9877.  Contact Person: Andrea Carson: 0274809815 / 032185440

  • Will be escorted whilst on site
  • Site hosts will also run through all hazards before they enter the workplace (production areas)
  • Will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) which will be checked by their hosts before they enter production areas
  • Will be issued with NZAS uniforms for project week
  • Will be given the offer to use NZAS bus service to/from work if they choose
  • Will complete a safety/site induction including a session with our Safety Specialist on induction day
  • Will undertake Take 5s and JSAs (internal safety systems where tasks are planned, hazards and controls identified) with their hosts before they undertake any work
  • Will be told to speak up if they do not feel comfortable carrying out any tasks (we do not expect them to do anything they are not comfortable with)
