The Year 12 and 13 Agribusiness classes have an exciting opportunity to experience a variety of agribusinesses in action. The day tour is a packed day visiting Blueberry Country and Auld Distillery in Western Southland. These businesses will be hosting the Level 2 and 3 Agribusiness classes showcasing what they do, how they futureproof their business, and what marketing strategies they use for their products. We will be hearing from variety of different staff on these properties including managers, workers, and owners. The girls will be gathering important information and strategies that these businesses use such as environmental, technological, social and legal which will be used for the Level 2 and 3 future proofing 4 credit internals, and the Level 3 marketing plan 6 credit internal. The classes will return to school at lunchtime and we will have some guest speakers visit us in the afternoon to discuss their businesses. This will be done on site at Southland Girls High School. This event contains risks, including being around a variety of animals and walking around a working orchard/farm. This event is managed by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes wearing high vis vests at all times while we are there, students are not to be on their phones while we are on site and need to be aware of the machinery, vehicles and animals within the farm. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value. If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact Vicki Jones 03 2116030 or [email protected]
It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in the parents being contacted and asked to be collected and removed from the field trip. It would also mean they are at risk of not being chosen to attend other field trips in the future.
Please pay and complete permission form below by Friday 13 March 2026.
