We are pleased to share an exciting enrichment opportunity for our Senior Classics students this July. The upcoming release of Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster film, “The Odyssey,” directly aligns with our Year 12 and Year 13 curriculum, offering a cinematic look at the fall of Troy and its aftermath for various Greek heroes.
This film provides a brilliant connection to our classroom studies. Our Year 12 students are currently exploring the Aeneid, focusing on the Roman account following Troy’s collapse, while our Year 13 students study the Iliad (external) and analyse the key heroes shaped by the Trojan War for their internal assessment. To deepen their understanding, we are organizing a class trip to Reading Cinemas. This excursion is designed to encourage critical thinking, prompting students to analyse the intersection of historical and mythological texts with Hollywood’s dramatic interpretations.
This excursion to Reading Cinemas offers students a wonderful opportunity to see how Hollywood interprets the classical epics they have been analysing in class. The trip is designed to foster critical thinking, encouraging students to contrast the original Greek narratives with the dramatic elements Hollywood introduces to create a modern blockbuster.
