You may have heard of the Zwift programme or people ‘Zwifting’ – this was precisely what Year 13 SGHS student Jessica Spencer was doing during lockdown on top of her school work.
Jessica took part in an online (via Zwift) virtual cycling road race after the South Island Secondary Schools Road Cycling Champs were cancelled due to Covid.
High School Students from around the South Island entered and ‘virtual raced’ on their road bikes. They connected to Zwift via the app, using some very fancy equipment – heart rate monitor, cadence sensor/power meter and a smart trainer!
Jessica was outstanding and represented SGHS admirably and had some awesome results shown below, it just goes to show how technology can be used as a work around in these uncertain times.
Congratulations Jessica, we are very proud of your efforts! 👊
Jessica’s results in the South Island U20 girls category:
🚵♀️ 2nd =: Overall GC Yellow Jersey
🚵♀️ 4th: Criterium – Green Jersey
🚵♀️ 1st: Hill Climb – Polkadot Jersey
