NZCF Big Sing Regional Final – 9 June 2026

On Tuesday evening 9  June at First Presbyterian Church in Tay Street, the New Zealand Choral Federation Big Sing Regional Festival will be held. The evening starts at 7:00pm and will conclude at approximately 9.35pm. Door Sales will be available.

Prices are:

Waged                                                   $20

Unwaged                                               $15

Students (tertiary and school)          $5

The adjudicator for this year is Rachael Griffiths-Hughes. Rachael is Director of Music at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Hamilton, and Senior Lecturer at the University of Waikato Conservatorium of Music, where she teaches Music history, ear training and directs the University choir. Rachael performs as harpsichordist and organist with many ensembles, recently as soloist with the NZSO. Her long-term research interest is the editing and performance of 17th and 18th century sacred cantatas. She has adjudicated for both The Kids’ Sing and The Big Sing and was on the adjudication panel for the 2024 World Choir Games.

FEMME choir members are to be in full school winter uniform. This includes their school blazer with no jersey. They will meet at the church at 6:00pm for a warmup. Sanguine choir members will meet at the same time. The girls are to be in winter uniform with red jersey, no blazer.

All choir members will attend a rehearsal at First Presbyterian Church that day. Students will be excused from class at 1:20pm to meet Mr James and Miss Rae in POT, ahead of a 1:30pm bus departure from school. The rehearsal will conclude at 3:15pm. Please note that return transport is not provided; students are required to make their own travel arrangements home directly from the church.

The evening promises to be an entertaining one. Please be aware there are nine choirs performing and the venue will be full. Please arrive early to ensure getting a seat. We look forward to having you in the audience on what will be a fabulous night of singing.
