Level 3 Health and Wellbeing Day

When: Friday 5th June 2026

Where: Students to be dropped off at the YMCA at 77 Tay Street at 8:30am

Transport: Students to be collected from the YMCA at 77 Tay Street at 3pm

Students will need to make their own way to the YMCA. They will then be walking up to SIT for the afternoon session.

Clothing: Students need to wear comfortable sports clothing that they can complete workouts in and wear gym shoes. Bring a jacket in case it is wet or cold or both.

What to Bring: Students are welcome to bring a towel and toiletries if they want to have a shower after the fitness classes. They will also need to bring a water bottle and snacks.

Cost: Students can bring an optional $20 to purchase lunch, or they are most welcome to bring a packed lunch. If students choose to bring money with them for lunch, they will be responsible for looking after this.

We have three SGHS PE and Health staff attending on this trip to support and manage the students during the day. When we are completing group classes at the YMCA which will be run by trained gym instructors. We also have a guest speaker from Academy Southland to run a Mental Skills session with the classes who is a qualified and trained specialist.

This event contains risks, including transportation and public areas. Students will be in the YMCA while other members of the public are also using this space. We will be walking between the YMCA and SIT in the afternoon. We will be walking as a group with a staff member at the front and at the back. We will be using crossings where required to cross the road. This event is supervised by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels, they cannot be totally eliminated. It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in students being returned to school by a staff member or parents being contacted to collect their child.

Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.
