Your child has her dance(s) entered for the DanceNZmade Interschool competition to be held on Monday 24th August 2026 at the Civic Theatre. Please note this is also a PLC day.
Date: Monday 24 August 2026
Times: Students to be dropped off at 8.45am at the Civic Theatre on Monday 24 August. This is an ALL day event.
Pick up from the Civic Theatre at the end of the show. Please have a way of contacting your child to know when this is. Show started at 6pm last year. End of the show time to be confirmed and determined by number of entries. It was approximately 9.30pm in 2025.
If your child would like to leave the theatre between the workshops (approximate finish 3pm) and the show (unconfirmed start time of 6pm) then they need to sign out with Mrs Bakker. A full timetable will be made available closer to the time.
Clothing: to wear PE gear during the day. Own costume for the show.
Costs: $44.00-$90.00 depending on the dances entered. This invoice will be sent to you and must be paid before the event. I cannot upload your music (the site will now allow it) until you have paid.
Food: Please ensure your child has enough food and water to last the whole day. If you would like to come and drop off food for dinner you are more than welcome to do so.
Venue: Civic theatre, 88 Tay street, 03 211 1777.
Your child should have brought home a copy of their commitments regarding requirements for rehearsals, and her responsibilities as a member of the SGHS DanceNZmade team. Please read this document and ensure it is signed and returned to school. A copy of this can be found here:
Tickets to watch the show are yet to be confirmed.
Entry this year will be done by Mrs Bakker. Please note the workshops are compulsory.
This event contains risks, including potential sprains, strains and bruises from dancing. This event is managed by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes safe warming up and ensuring students medical information is up to date. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value. If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact Mrs Chrissie Bakker on 0211910003.
It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in home being called and being removed from the competition.
