Y7-13 One Day Ski Trip Remarkables Ski Field – 8 August 2026

We are offering a one-day ski trip to the Remarkables Ski field for any interested students from Year 7 to 13.  The cost will cover transport to and from Southland Girls High School to the Remarkables Ski field, a lift pass, ski/snowboard rental and a two-hour lesson with experienced NZ ski instructors.  This is a great opportunity to try out a new sport, see our amazing country and gain confidence in either skiing or snowboarding.

Details:

Date: Saturday 8th August 2026

Time:  5.45 am meeting at the front of school at the Kumagaya gates.

Return:  Approximately 6.30 pm to the front of school.

Transport: Go bus: 53-seater bus

Clothing: Mufti, but suitable warm clothing for skiing

Food: You can bring snacks, lunch and a drink bottle or bring money to purchase food from the ski field.

Costs:  $185 per person this includes transport, ski rental, lift pass and a 1 ½ hour – 2-hour lesson full payment due as soon as possible to secure your spot

  • Lessons: For safety, all students must take the lesson, which is arranged so that students are skiing/snowboarding at their correct ability level.   • Students wont be supervised closely while on the mountain skiing. Will travel in groups of 2-3 and have access to a cellphone.
  • Please note: Board financial procedure requires payment in full, by the due date for your child to purchase resources, participate in sports or attend trips/events. Payments received will be allocated to the oldest unpaid fees and charges owing on your child’s account first. Extra-curricular activities operate on a “pay before you play” policy.

Venue: Remarkables Ski Field, Queenstown

This event contains risks, including injury while skiing. This event is managed by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan.  This includes careful consideration of all procedures while carrying out the activities.  Students must listen carefully to NZ Ski instructors.  While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated.  Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.  If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact Mel Young at 03 2116030 or [email protected]

It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in your child needing picked up by a parent or caregiver.

Inclement Weather
Sometimes strong winds or other weather conditions can prevent the group from skiing. In this instance, we would take the students into Queenstown to complete a range of activities. (We have found in the past that if we ring around we can secure good group discounts at many of the tourist activities). To prevent your child having to bring money for this eventuality, we are seeking permission from you prior to departure to use the money that would have been paid for skiing/snowboarding to use towards participating in these activities.
