As part of your child’s Year 10 Wellbeing Course, they are required to participate in an outdoor activity. These are extra-ordinary activities outside the normal curriculum.

On Thursday 5 June the Year 10 class will be heading down to Bluff Stirling Point and the Motupohue Walking Tracks.

For your child to attend this trip please read through the following information and complete the permission form below by Friday 22 May 2025.

• Date: Thursday 5 June 2025
• Time: Depart SGHS at 9:00 am / Arrival back to SGHS 2:30 pm (approximately)
• Venue: Bluff Stirling Point and Motupohue Walking Tracks
• Transport: students and staff involved will be transported to and from the venue in the school van.
• Cost:  covered by course fee-  please complete permission form by Friday 22 May 2025.
  • Please note: Board financial procedure requires payment in full, by the due date for your child to purchase resources, participate in sports or attend trips/events. Payments received will be allocated to the oldest unpaid fees and charges owing on your child’s account first. Extra-curricular activities operate on a “pay before you play” policy.
• Uniform requirements: students to wear mufti clothing.  Tramping boots or sturdy walking shoes are required. Warm, waterproof clothing is essential for this trip.  Please also bring a daypack.  All students will be provided with a full gear list in class.
• Food: students to have a packed lunch and snacks and full drink bottle of water

This event contains risks from dangerous natural hazards including injuries for trips, falls and weather concerns.  This event is managed by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan.  This includes careful consideration of risks.  While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated.  Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.  If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact Mr Dave Beadle on 03 2116030 or [email protected] who is in charge of this activity.

It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in students being unable to continue with future activities as part of this course.
