Y13 Economics, History Trip Wellington, June 2024

The NCEA Year 13 Economics Course encourage students to undertake some fieldwork.  Because of this, and because we believe that students understand their class work better through ‘seeing and doing’.  We shall be visiting the Wellington area and visiting key places that have historical significance, or that influence our economy in New Zealand, this will include:

  • Parliament and the Supreme Court
  • Reserve Bank of NZ
  • Te Papa
  • The Wellington Memorial Cenotaph
  • Productivity Commission
  • NZTE
  • Sharsies
  • Ministry of Trade and Foreign Affairs
  • Xero (or similar places)

The cost per student will be approximately $790.00, a breakdown of which is provided below:

Transport to Wellington $550.00 (subject to change)
Accommodation $100.00
Weta Experience $ 30.00
Transport around Wellington + Shuttle $ 50.00
Food $ 60.00
TOTAL $790.00 – fundraising opportunities will be available for covering this amount

Dates: The field trip will take place from Thursday June 13 until Saturday June 15, returning to Invercargill at approximately 6.05pm

Where: We will be staying in Wellington City at the Waterloo, 1 Bunny Street, Pipitea, Wellington 6011, 04 473 8482

Transport: We will travel there with AirNZ. Around Wellington we will use the Public/Private Transport system and walk to our various sites. Your child will need to be taken to the airport at least 45 minutes before the flight on Thursday morning and picked up from there on Saturday afternoon.

Please Note: The flights purchased will include checked baggage as we are staying two nights. However, if students feel they do not need carryon luggage then this may reduce the flights by $20 per individual flight (savings of $40)

This event includes risks associated with travel eg: flying and using public/private transport. This event is managed by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes using reputable travel and transport services that ensures the safety of their passengers and will provide services in case of an emergency. It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in Student being sent home at the cost of the parents or caregivers.

These events are managed by the appropriate sporting body in conjunction with school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan. This includes careful consideration of the risks, all risks will be outlined to the students. While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated. Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.
