L2 PE Great Trails Cycling Trip March 2024

Our Level 2 PE class will be attending a ‘Great Trails‘ cycling trip to the Central Otago area 2024. It will be 3 days of off and on road cycling tour to fully assess Standard 2.4 and 2.7. Students are responsible for and will be assessed on their riding, organisational, camping, cooking and teamwork skills throughout the 3 days.  

Please read through the following information below and complete the permission, payment and the student health form – both due by 18 March 2024. 

Details:  

  • Depart: Monday 25 March at 8:30 am – SGHS Gymnasium 
  • Return: Wednesday 27 March at 3:00 pm – SGHS Gymnasium 
  • Transport: school vans, hire van, and private vehicles. 
  • Drivers: SGHS vans – Dave Beadle, Eddie Peters, Erica Stedman / Hire Van – 4 x private vehicles driven by parents, to be confirmed  
  • Adults attending: 3 x SGHS staff – Dave Beadle, Eddie Peters and Erica Stedman  
  • Clothing and equipment required: as part of their Std 2.7 students will be creating a pre-trip gear list and on the day gear check. Students are to have thermals and wind/waterproof jacket. Students are to provide their own day pack, bike and helmet. Any medication required. 
  • Accommodation: Alexandra Holiday Park, 44 Manuherekia Road, Alexandra. Ph 03-448 8297 
  • Cost: $120.00 per child – full payment is due by 18 March 2024 
    • Board financial procedure requires payment in full, by the due date for your child to purchase resources, participate in sports or attend trips/events. Payments received will be allocated to the oldest unpaid fees and charges owing on your child’s account first. Extra-curricular activities operate on a “pay before you play” policy 

This event contains risks, including driving, camping in tents, cooking, off road and on road cycling. This event is managed by school staff who will manage risk and hazards according to the school’s safety management plan, each staff member also holds a valid First Aid Certificate.  While risks can be maintained to acceptable levels they cannot be totally eliminated.  Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.  If you wish to come in to school to see our safety management systems or have any questions, feel free to contact our Teacher in Charge, Mr Dave Beadle at David.beadle@southlandgirls.school.nz or 027 600 6424.

It is important for safety reasons that students follow instructions given to them by all staff and follow all appropriate school rules. Behaviour by students that is deemed dangerous and puts themselves and/or others at undue risk will result in removal from activities and parents/caregivers contacted to collect their child from Alexandra at their own cost.

Some risk is retained for its learning and experiential value.
