New Caledonia Cultural Trip
A SGHS student 10 day trip to Noumea, Capital of New Caledonia, New Zealand's closest French speaking neighbour, took place in July 2007.
Accommodation was in a reputable hotel with 3 or 4 girls to a room, with a sink, microwave and fridge.
- Le Petit Train discovery tour of Noumea
- Amedee Lighthouse Tour, Tjibaou Cultural Centre
- Parc Forestier, Aquarium, Markets, Cathedral
- New Caledonia Museum, Maritime Museum
- Shopping and interating with the locals at the beach (the water is warm enough for swimming all year round)
What were the benefits of this activity?
First hand experience of French culture, in an island setting. The chance for students to put their knowledge of the French language to the test by having to communicate in French.
Spain Italy Trip
On the 2nd of April 2004, a group of 18 very excited students and their 5 adult travelling companions saw the trip they had planned for two years become a reality.
The senior students few out of Invercargill for the other side of the world; a 3 week visit to Spain and Italy.... More
Each year German students from Southland gather together to enjoy two days of German language and culture immersion.
In 2007 over 25 students took part in this awesome experience.
Activities at the Talkfest involve the chance to speak as much German as possible, eat German food, a German cake competition and lots of German games.
It is a great opportunity to talk with German native speakers, learn about other German learning experiences, meet new people and make new friends.
For those more creative students, they also get the chance to write, produce and perform German music.
This is a mini-German camp that we all look forward to every year, and hopefully will remain a great tradition for years to come.
