Sports Day

In February each year the entire school gathers at Surrey Park for the annual Athletics Day.
Most of the students choose to dress up in support of their house, in a wide variety of styles as you can see. This is a very social occasion, with lots of chants and good natured rivalry between houses.
The students always enjoy the day. There are always excellent results and school records broken.
Parents come along and support the school and their daughter at this yearly event.

Stage Challenge/J Rock

Every year we compete at local level in this national competition: J Rock - years 7 and 8, and Stage Challenge - years 9-13.
Planning for the Stage Challenge entry begins in November of the previous year with senior students deciding on the theme for the entry etc.
A blaze of colour, dance, drama and fantastic music always characterises our performances.
We are always astounded that these events have been directed and choreographed by the students themselves. The end result is fantastic.

Gold Rush

From the high country hills to the raging Clutha River, student teams of three brave, and successfully complete in the annual 375 km Goldrush Multisport race.
Temperatures can range from searing heat (35°) to freezing mornings, waking at 5:00 am.

SGHS have maintained a strong presence in this Multisport event, bringing home the awards for Best School Team on many occasions.

Kumagaya Visit

Our sister school relationship with Kumagaya Girls' School in Japan is a valued part of our school year.
Their annual visit to our school in August is eagerly anticipated, with the staff and students being home hosted by SGHS families. Their host sisters generally form members of the groups of students from SGHS who return the visit on a bi-annual basis.
